Re: Vince Carroll, “Discus poverty at own peril”, DP, 2/20/10
Denver Post editorial, “One small step on immigration” DP, 2/22/10
While the Denver Post editorialists hint around the edges of our immigration predicament, they never quite ‘touch’ the core problem or what’s driving it. In fact, Vince Carroll and his staff avoid it at all costs. With an estimated 500,000 illegals and their children residing in Colorado, the costs top $1.1 billion annually to Colorado taxpayers. (Source: www.cairco.org) Not only that, you will never see the Denver Post ‘going after’ the employers of illegal aliens at bars, restaurants, hotels, roofing companies, construction contractors, landscapers, fast food shops and meat packing plants.
You won’t see a story on the thousands of illegals driving cars without licenses or insurance. You won’t find a story on the ID theft, ID forgeries, ID scams and housing fraud by illegals and employers. Why? Big money! But again, Colorado taxpayers subsidize a few that haul in millions.
Yet, Carroll and company wind their way around the immigration/population issue much like California politicians and newspapers. At the same time, Colorado faces many of the same failures. California runs a $26 billion debt and over four million illegal aliens and their children make a mockery of their police, educational, medical and prison systems. Rampant fraud allows illegals to remain as California taxpayers pay and pay! Colorado finds itself over $284 million in debt, but no one will address the costs of illegal aliens.
During the Colorado gubernatorial race three years ago, ICE Agent Cory Voorhis exposed the deceptions in the immigration arena from former District Attorney and now Governor Bill Ritter as he allowed criminal drug dealing illegal aliens free passes like ‘agricultural trespass’ to return to our streets instead of being deported. A “Denver Sanctuary Policy” for illegal aliens by Mayor John Hickenlooper created situations whereby two women and a three year old child suffered death at the hands of illegal Francis Hernandez. Police caught and let him go 19 times via Hickenlooper’s policy. Hundreds of similar stories duplicate across the USA with sanctuary cities.
"We need to lock down the border and enforce visas, reject amnesty and enforce our current laws, get rid of our rewards and incentives to be here illegally, and mandate E-Verify.” -- Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) at CPAC in Washington DC, February 20, 2010
CARROLL EXPOSES THE RESULTS OF INJECTING ENDLESS NUMBERS OF POOR, UNEDUCATED IMMIGRANTS INTO THIS STATE
Carroll related, “As Kay Hymowitz explained a few years ago in her book Marriage and Caste in America: The old-fashioned married-couple- with-children model is doing quite well among college-educated women…she readily admits that "there are millions of poor Americans, living not just in down-on-your-luck hardship but in entrenched, multigenerational poverty.
“Nearly 40 percent of all children were born to unwed mothers in 2007, the highest figure ever. For Asians, the percentage was 17; for whites, 28; for blacks, a catastrophic 72. Unfortunately, the biggest surge is occurring in the fastest-growing segment of the population: Over half of all Latino births are now to unwed moms, too.”
U.S. IMPORTS 100,000 IMMIGRANTS AND THEIR CHILDREN EVERY 30 DAYS WITHOUT END: 1.2 MILLION ANNUALLY
What Carroll fails to mention stems from the fact that via relentless immigration from third world cultures like Mexico where education ranks lower than earthworms, no amount of money or the best U.S. teachers can elevate children of ‘cultural poverty’ into the American mainstream.
Thus, with over 50 different languages, we saw a 67 percent dropout rate in Denver Public Schools in 2004. It hit 48 percent in 2009. In Detroit, Michigan, with 600,000 immigrants, they suffered, according to NBC’s Brian Williams, a 76 percent dropout rate last year. In high immigrant cities, the same percentages occur.
Additionally, relentless immigration undercuts American Blacks and Hispanics from jobs, which drives them deeper into poverty. As they become endemically poor, they produce more babies on welfare that move into cyclical and entrenched poverty.
Can we solve it? You betcha! We need a10 year moratorium on all immigration into our country. After that, a maximum of 100,000 immigrants annually that benefit this civilization.

HOW MANY MORE MILLIONS OF IMMIGRANTS CAN AMERICA HANDLE?
By Frosty Wooldridge
The greatest question facing Americans today in the arena of legal and illegal immigration is: how many is too many? When is enough, enough? How many more of the world’s poor can we handle? How are we going to handle a line of immigrants that never ends? As they stream into our country by the millions annually, what about our culture, language and quality of life? What about our sustainability?
The United States absorbs, or another term may be more appropriate--chokes on 1.2 to 1.5 million legal immigrants annually. America imports more immigrants than all other countries combined. For the past forty years, this country injected itself with an enormous immigrant load that added an additional 100 million people to America.
Whether we like to admit it or not, this colossal human overload created virtually every detrimental sociological, educational, environmental and resource dilemma we face today. One look at Detroit, Michigan with a 76 percent high school dropout rate and 50 percent illiteracy causes exasperation to what has happened to the American Dream. Notice the most tragic aspect of every third world country: illiteracy! It means more Americans that educate themselves will be paying more for those that chose illiteracy. Ironically, their numbers increase much faster than educated Americans. Therefore, all of us will be paying more for ‘their’ educational folly and fecundity. As their educational levels drop, our standard of living and quality of life drop with them.
Take a look at California! Anyone think it will survive its demographic situation by adding another 20 million immigrants within 30 years? California suffers $26 billion in debts, but grows by 1,700 people daily. (Source: www.capsweb.org) How about the latest figures in the Denver Post that show 43 American states cannot pay
their bills and suffer billions in debts?
CULTURE OF ILLITERACY AND POVERTY GROWING IN THE USA
Within this growing and entrenched poverty and illiteracy paradigm, the numbers explode beyond recapture. In my last column, I urged a cap of 100,000 immigrants a year. Dozens of emails urged me to promote a 10 year moratorium. In my book, America on the Brink: The Next Added 100 Million Americans, I DID advocate a 10 year moratorium. If we don’t stop the massive immigrant in-bleeding, we cannot hope to save our educational systems or repair our illiteracy rates--
That leads up to the distressing fact that 1 in 7 Americans remains functionally illiterate:
Illiteracy Statistics
• 42 million American adults can't read at all; 50 million are unable to read at a higher level that is expected of a fourth grader.
• The number of adults that are classified as functionally illiterate increases by about 2.25 million each year.
• 20 percent of high school seniors can be classified as being functionally illiterate at the time they graduate.
Source: National Right to Read Foundation
Where Illiteracy Leads (2.3 million Americans in prison)
• 70 percent of prisoners in state and federal systems can be classified as illiterate.
• 85 percent of all juvenile offenders rate as functionally or marginally illiterate.
• 43 percent of those whose literacy skills are lowest live in poverty.
Source: National Institute for Literacy
Yet, not one U.S. Senator, U.S. House rep, state governor, mayor, President Obama or environmental organization whispers a peep about the immigration factor! In fact, my two U.S. Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennet propose to double legal immigration in the approaching amnesty bill.
As it is today, legal and illegal immigrants pour into America at an astounding rate of 200,000 every 30 days, month in and month out, year in and year out.
WHEN ENOUGH IS MORE THAN TOO MUCH
In a brilliant interview with one of America’s foremost leaders on the immigration equation, Dr. John Tanton www.thesocialcontract.com , you may visit one of 23 five minute interviews by George Colburn as he speaks to Dr. Tanton: http://www.johntanton.org/video/jt_video_2006_7.html .
Dr. Tanton asks:
1. How many people should we admit?
2. Who gets the 70 different visas to enter the United States?
3. Who enforces their exit from the USA?
Having watched all 23 of these highly educational video tapes, I felt a greater understanding of our dilemma. Obviously, we average Americans ignore our accelerating predicament as long as water falls from the tap and our cars enjoy ample gas and our heaters come on in the winter to keep our homes warm. But, our ‘land of plenty’ will not persist with relentless immigration.
Dr. Tanton notes, “We cannot continue to solve carrying capacity issues by moving people and resources around the globe - we need to recognize the finiteness of resources and adapt our lifestyle to one that can be sustained over the millennia.
“In summary, fellow citizens need to "buck up" and take up the discussion about mass immigration. It is time to give up the name-calling, try to find the facts as they are, try to be concerned about future generations, and try to make legitimate projections. We must acknowledge that most people are going to have to bloom where they are planted - there is simply not the carrying capacity to move tens and hundreds of millions of people around the globe and still have any sort of survivable lifestyle.”
In a recent interview with Michael Cutler, former ICE agent, he said, “Democracy is not a spectator sport.” I concur. If any of us, no matter what our race, creed or color might be, refuse to engage our U.S. Congress as we have not for 30 years as to the immigration equation—our children will find themselves living in a terribly degraded America where the American Dream will be described by the history books as a ‘fleeting fantasy’ from the era of 1950 to 2010. This three minute interview with Adam Schrager on “Your Show” May 4, 2008, NBC Channel 9 News, addresses the ramifications of adding 120 million people to USA in 35 years and six million people to Colorado as to water shortages, air pollution, loss of farmland, energy costs and degradation of quality of life. In the interview, Frosty Wooldridge explains the ramifications of adding 120 million people to the USA in 35 years. He advances new concepts such as a “Colorado Carrying Capacity Policy”; “Colorado Environmental Impact Policy”; “Colorado Water Usage Policy”; “Colorado Sustainable Population Policy”. Nationally, the USA needs a "National Sustainable Population Policy" to determine the carrying capacity of this nation for the short and long term. Wooldridge is available for interviews on radio and TV having interviewed on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and FOX.

THE TRAGEDY OF DETROIT: HOW IMMIGRATION AND MULTICULURALISM DESTROYED IT
By Frosty Wooldridge
For 15 years, from the mid 1970s to 1990, I worked in Detroit, Michigan. I watched it descend into the abyss of crime, debauchery, gun play, drugs, school truancy, car-jacking, gangs and human depravity. I watched entire city blocks burned out. I watched graffiti explode on buildings, cars, trucks, buses and school yards. Trash everywhere! Detroiters walked through it, tossed more into it and ignored it.
Tens of thousands and then, hundreds of thousands today exist on federal welfare, free housing and food stamps! With Aid to Dependent Children, minority women birthed eight to 10 and in once case, one woman birthed 24 kids as reported by the Detroit Free Press—all on American taxpayer dollars. A new child meant a new car payment, new TV and whatever mom wanted. I saw Lyndon Baines Johnson’s “Great Society” flourish in Detroit. If you give money for doing nothing, you will get more hands out taking money for doing nothing.
Mayor Coleman Young, perhaps the most corrupt mayor in America, outside of Richard Daley in Chicago, rode Detroit down to its knees. He set the benchmark for cronyism, incompetence and arrogance. As a black man, he said, “I am the MFIC.” The IC meant ‘in charge’. You can figure out the rest. Detroit became a majority black city with 67 percent African-Americans.
As a United Van Lines truck driver for my summer job from teaching math and science, I loaded hundreds of American families into my van for a new life in another city or state. Detroit plummeted from 1.8 million citizens to 912,000 today. At the same time, legal and illegal immigrants converged on the city, so much so, that Muslims number over 300,000. Mexicans number 400,000 throughout Michigan, but most work in Detroit.
As the Muslims moved in, the whites moved out. As the crimes became more violent, the whites fled. Finally, unlawful Mexicans moved in at a torrid pace. You could cut the racial tension in the air with a knife! Detroit may be one our best examples of multiculturalism: pure dislike and total separation from America.
Today, you hear Muslim calls to worship over the city like a new American Baghdad with hundreds of Islamic mosques in Michigan, paid for by Saudi Arabia oil money. High school flunk out rates reached 76 percent last June according to NBC’s Brian Williams. Classrooms resemble more foreign countries than America. English? Few speak it! The city features a 50 percent illiteracy rate and growing. Unemployment hit 28.9 percent in 2009 as the auto industry vacated the city.
In this week’s Time Magazine October 4, 2009, “The Tragedy of Detroit: How a great city fell and how it can rise again,” I choked on the writer’s description of what happened.
“If Detroit had been savaged by a hurricane and submerged by a ravenous flood, we'd know a lot more about it,” said Daniel Okrent. “If drought and carelessness had spread brush fires across the city, we'd see it on the evening news every night. Earthquake, tornadoes, you name it — if natural disaster had devastated the city that was once the living proof of American prosperity, the rest of the country might take notice.
But Detroit, once our fourth largest city, now 11th and slipping rapidly, has had no such luck. Its disaster has long been a slow unwinding that seemed to remove it from the rest of the country. Even the death rattle that in the past year emanated from its signature industry brought more attention to the auto executives than to the people of the city, who had for so long been victimized by their dreadful decision-making.”
As Coleman Young’s corruption brought the city to its knees, no amount of federal dollars could save the incredible payoffs, kick backs and illegality permeating his administration. I witnessed the city’s death from the seat of my 18-wheeler tractor trailer because I moved people out of every sector of decaying Detroit.
“By any quantifiable standard, the city is on life support. Detroit's treasury is $300 million short of the funds needed to provide the barest municipal services,” Okrent said. “The school system, which six years ago was compelled by the teachers' union to reject a philanthropist's offer of $200 million to build 15 small, independent charter high schools, is in receivership. The murder rate is soaring, and 7 out of 10 remain unsolved. Three years after Katrina devastated New Orleans, unemployment in that city hit a peak of 11%. In Detroit, the unemployment rate is 28.9%. That's worth spelling out: twenty-eight point nine percent.”
At the end of Okrent’s report, and he will write a dozen more about Detroit, he said, “That's because the story of Detroit is not simply one of a great city's collapse. It's also about the erosion of the industries that helped build the country we know today. The ultimate fate of Detroit will reveal much about the character of America in the 21st century. If what was once the most prosperous manufacturing city in the nation has been brought to its knees, what does that say about our recent past? And if it can't find a way to get up, what does that say about our future?”
As you read in my book review of Chris Steiner’s book, $20 Per Gallon, the auto industry won’t come back. Immigration will keep pouring more and more uneducated third world immigrants from the Middle East into Detroit—thus creating a beachhead for Islamic hegemony in America. If 50 percent illiteracy continues, we will see more homegrown terrorists spawned out of the Muslim ghettos of Detroit. Illiteracy plus Islam equals walking human bombs. You have already seen it in the Madrid, Spain, London, England and Paris, France with train bombings, subway bombings and riots. As their numbers grow, so will their power to enact their barbaric Sharia Law that negates republican forms of government, first amendment rights and subjugates women to the lowest rungs on the human ladder. We will see more honor killings by upset husbands, fathers and brothers that demand subjugation by their daughters, sisters and wives. Muslims prefer beheadings of women to scare the hell out of any other members of their sect from straying.
Multiculturalism: what a perfect method to kill our language, culture, country and way of life.

Two of hundreds of letter responses from Detroiters:
Mr. Wooldridge,
I couldn't have said it better myself. The city of Detroit was long on the way to ruin before the Arab's ever were in the picture. I used to work downtown on Woodward Avenue right after I was graduated from high school and got there by riding the bus from the north east side of the city. This was the early 60's and felt completely safe in doing so. My brother went to Cass Tech High School, one of the premier high schools in the nation which was located downtown and also took the bus to school. We'd never dream of doing that today. Mayor Young came to power and everything changed. He was very vocal in saying he wanted "whitey" out of Detroit (talk about your racist!). When the crime got so bad and nothing was being done to stop it the white population left along with their tax base and the city was on the fast track to destruction. If any one thing can be blamed on the ruin of Detroit (or at least the start of it) it was Mayor Young's hatred of the white folks who lived in the city he believed should be for blacks only. My mom lived for 53 years in the same house I grew up in until 2000. She was the last white person left on the block by then. She had many very nice black neighbors who watched out for her but when her garage was burned down that was the last straw. She'd been broken into, attacked in her own home but stayed until this last bit of vandalism drove her out. Everything that happened to my mom and the part of Detroit I grew up in had nothing to do with immigrants or foreigners. It breaks my heart when I see what has happened to my home town, especially when I go to Boston or Chicago on business and see how those cities have survived and thrived. I don't know the answer to Detroit's problems at this stage in the game but I can't see any future for what was a great city.

Mr. Wooldridge,
My wife is from Detroit, and her mother and older brother still live in the area - Warren and Clinton Township, respectively. I've also visited there quite a bit over the years, as you can imagine.
I just read this piece, and while I agree that there has been an influx of foreigners into Detroit, possibly even illegals (I frankly don't know what those stats are), they are but a small part of what brought Detroit to the state it's in today.
You commented that, "...as the Muslims moved in, the whites moved out." I would suggest that the verse might actually be the case: as the whites moved out, the Muslims moved in.
As you mentioned in the article, twenty years of Coleman Young dishing out taxpayer-funded goodies to his buddies, along with steadily rising numbers of welfare parasites contributed to the mess. Add to that the unions driving manufacturing jobs out one after the other, and you have a clear path to the current situation.
Illegals may have played a part, but, at the risk of sounding "racist," it was trivial compared to the role played by the "minority" community.
Illegal aliens are, indeed, bringing our country down. But they're not always the main culprit in every area with a problem.

Anchor Babies: No More U.S. Citizenship
By Frosty Wooldridge
Does it make sense to taxpayers for 400,000 pregnant mothers to break across America’s borders annually—and birth their babies into instant citizenship in the United States? Is it fair for American taxpayers to pay for those births in hospitals via the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)? Does it stand to reason that taxpayers must then pay for those children to enjoy 13 years of schooling at the expense of our children? Does anyone realize that the costs run into the billions and trillions of dollars over the decades?
Not only do taxpayers support those children, their mothers become part of the welfare ride for those 18 years. Once 18, the child may ‘chain migrate’ an endless numbers of relatives into America.
In an interview with Business Week, director of www.NumbersUSA.com , Rob Beck, said, “The U.S. should pass H.R. 1868—the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2009—so all babies born on U.S. soil are no longer automatically made citizens.
“Maternity tourism is just the beginning of the silliness of birthright citizenship that goes to the babies of foreign students, temporary foreign workers, international travelers—and the millions who break the law to criminally enter this country.”
With an astounding 400,000 anchor babies or “Jackpot babies” as named by radio talk show host Terry Anderson in Los Angeles, www.theterryandersonshow.com, American taxpayers pay a heavy price for a total misinterpretation of the 14th amendment of our constitution.
“All told, federal law (not the Constitution) gives citizenship to an estimated minimum 400,000 babies each year who don’t have even one parent who is a U.S. citizen or permanent legal immigrant,” Beck said. “This is a huge impediment to efforts to stabilize U.S. population to allow for environmental sustainability. And it is a great incentive for more illegal immigration.
“Each of these babies becomes an anchor who retards deportation of unlawfully present parents—and who eventually will be an anchor for entire families and villages as chain migration leads to the immigration of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
“Birthright citizenship is an antiquated practice that has been abandoned by nearly all wealthy nations and emerging nations (recently India and Indonesia) and by the majority of poor nations.”
First of all, it’s unlawful! Mexico, with strict immigration laws, does not allow any kind of activity such as anchor babies. Second, it creates a whole new subclass of entrenched poverty. Third, it undermines American children in schools as Jackpot babies displace special programs by requiring English as a Second Language, and, it disrupts normal learning for our students. Fourth, it costs billion of dollars that should go toward America’s inner cities and minority poor.
“The Supreme Court has ruled only that the Constitution requires babies of legal immigrants be U.S. citizens,” Beck said. “It is time to join the modern world, pass H.R. 1868 (Birthright Citizenship Act of 2009), and limit citizenship to babies who have at least one parent who is a citizen or legal immigrant.”
Rightfully, four years ago, Ireland became the last country in the European Union that outlawed anchor babies.
Today, America must stop illegal, unlawful, immoral and unjust allowance for anchor babies. We must, as a nation, pass H.R. 1868 in order to make sure those pregnant foreign and unlawful migrant women birth their babies in their own countries to be taken care of by their governments and families.
We must, as a nation, insist on personal accountability, personal responsibility and national accountability. Become a member of www.numbersusa.com and help pass H.R. 1868.

LET’S SUSPEND ALL IMMIGRATION INTO USA: NATIONAL MORATORIUM
By Frosty Wooldridge
Immigration continues to wreak havoc on the United States of America. It’s killing our culture, our language and our way of life. Over 2.5 legal and illegal immigrants add themselves to our already overburdened schools, cities, hospitals and infrastructure—annually. No let up in sight!
Let’s change America’s future toward a positive and sustainable society. We do not need another 70 million immigrants added to this country in the next 30 years. Let’s engage a “National Moratorium on all Immigration.” Let’s stop flooding the United States with such huge numbers of people that we cannot sustain our own citizens.
The U.S. government cannot handle any more immigrants, we taxpayers cannot handle them, our environment cannot handle them and our dwindling resources cannot handle them.
Here’s the exciting news and you can see it on the videos at www.numbersusa.com with Roy Beck. Mr. Beck coupled with several other top websites like www.AmericanWorkers.org to change the course of our history. We suffer 15 million unemployed Americans in August 2009 while our government imports an added 138,000 legal immigrants and 100,000 unlawful immigrants in the month of August. Congress will dump another 238,000 again in September into the USA and on and on and on….
An astounding 32.2 million Americans subsist on food stamps today. Our schools cannot cope with immigrant children or their 100 languages. Our kids suffer. Our communities suffer. It’s time for a “time out!”
“I'm excited to tell you that with special designated contributions, NumbersUSA has joined with several other organizations to mount a new ad campaign on national TV,” said Roy Beck of NumbersUSA.com.
You will see this "Elevator Ad" running at various times on nearly every program on CNN and Fox, day and night.”
No. 1: View the ad here.
“We are running this ad to proclaim to the nation the dirty secret that is being protected by nearly all news media and by nearly all politicians.”
The dirty secret that the elites don't want the American people to know is: The federal government is continuing to import foreign workers into this country despite 15 million workers already being unemployed.
No. 2: IT IS TIME TO SUSPEND MOST IMMIGRATION.
“If that sounds too radical to you, please read my blog calling for an Immigration Suspension Bill,” Beck said. “I talk about the fact that even our allies in Congress are too timid to introduce a bill that should be mandated by the current Jobs Depression. Please read my suggestions for action in using the TV ads and faxes to apply pressure on all Members of Congress to stop all immigration except U.S. citizens' spouses and minor children, and special-needs refugees, until unemployment is low again.”
No. 3: Watch my video blog for this week.
“Some people say they like getting their marching orders in person,” said Beck. “So, come into my office on the banks of the Potomac and let me describe to you our action needs of the week.”
No. 4: Go to your personalized Action Buffet and avail yourself of as many actions as you can take.
“There is so much pressure needed to focus your Senators and U.S. Representative on the immigration issues and what needs to be done,” said Beck. “Our Action Buffet Team has added a number of new actions this week. Joe Jenkins sent you some alerts later in the day. Before midnight, you had already sent 98,000 faxes to Congress!!!”
Dear readers, become one of 1.1 million members of www.NumbersUSA.com and swell our ranks to get this immigration stopped. If ever you joined an All-American effort, and for free—this is your moment in history. Action, action, action! It is SO easy to fax the pre-written letters to your Congress-critters.
No. 5: NOTICE THE NEW DESIGN OF YOUR ACTION BUFFET CORKBOARD.
“You will see the corkboard surrounded by some new tabs that are part of our brand new Local Power initiative on our website,” said Beck. “After you have taken actions, please click around on this revised web page and see the new features. Especially note the convenient page that shows all three or your Members of Congress, with grades, discussions, contact info and a Tip Line for you to use.”
MAKE SURE YOU ARE CHECKING OUT ALL TOWN HALL OPPORTUNITIES.
“The links to the Town Hall meetings are listed under the photo of each Member of Congress on your My Three Congress members page,” Beck said. And, as always, keep coming back to the NumbersUSA home page every day to keep up with the latest in immigration news, views, videos and actions.”
I urge you to take it to them! Tell all your friends about this website. Non-partisan! This website represents every American citizen! Give Beck your best and let’s move together in such huge numbers that our Congress must pay attention. No gripe, no complain, no whine, no bellyache, no bleating, no grumbling, no nitpicking, no nagging or crying!
Action speaks louder than words! This is your moment in history to make a difference for your family, your community and your nation. Let’s get www.numbersusa.com up to 2.0 million members and more before Congress dumps another amnesty on us!

BLACK AMERICA DEVASTATED BY MASS IMMIGRATION
Part 1: Undermining Black employment
By Frosty Wooldridge
Each week, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, majority leaders of the U.S. House and Senate of the United States—shout grandiose proclamations about their efforts to make work, housing and education better for all Americans.
Unfortunately, for the past 20 years, both individuals failed Black America. Reid and Pelosi encouraged, without batting an eye, the slave labor invasion from Mexico. Both voted for insourcing, outsourcing and offshoring of jobs that displaced and undermined millions of Black Americans. Both watched Chinese manufacturing usurp American jobs in steel, auto and, welding and ancillary jobs attached to Detroit, former “Automobile Capitol of the World.”
Yes, Reid gave us Wal-Mart with 90 percent Chinese products that put the Chinese to work, but cut the throats of American workers. Every time you save money at Wal-Mart, you put thousands of U.S. workers in unemployment lines—that includes millions of Blacks.
As a college student in Michigan, I witnessed the Detroit riots in 1967 that burned much of the Black inner-city into cinders. The riots in Watts illustrated seething anger among Blacks. The U.S. Army drafted millions of poor blacks to fight in Lyndon Baines Johnson’s Vietnam War. Tens of thousands died without a clue as to why they departed this life so early. Dr. Martin Luther King tried to bring equality for people of color and stop ‘separate but equal’ drinking fountains and restaurants.
Johnson engineered the “Great Society” in order to give Blacks a chance at the American Dream. Schools upgraded, scholarships flourished, and even Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole could eat and stay in the same hotel as whites. Top Black athletes commanded millions of dollars in sports and Black entertainers became millionaires like the Supremes, Richard Pryor and Sammy Davis, Jr.
With the power of the auto industry and manufacturing, Blacks entered—in greater numbers—the middle class of America through the 70s and 80s.
But in the 90s, something happened. Tyson Foods, Hormel, McDonald’s, Swift, Amour and dozens of companies found they could undermine and undercut wages of America’s working poor by adding unlawful immigrant workers. At first, a trickle, but soon, a deluge! Bush I winked. Clinton nodded. Bush II declared, “But they do the jobs that Americans won’t do!”
Today, Detroit suffers 76 percent dropout/flunkout rate from high schools according to NBC’s Brian Williams. Similar rates apply all over America. Jobs for Blacks dwindle as America’s manufacturing base, supported by Pelosi and Reid, offshores to other countries. Black teens cannot find a ‘fast food’ job to save their lives.
But unlawful Mexican workers can! Drugs and pregnant teen mothers explode. The Black prison population in America stands as a national disgrace.
While we blow up Iraq and Afghanistan, every day for the past eight years, at a current expenditure of $667 billion, our own citizens languish in hopelessness. A phenomenal 32.2 million Americans subsist on food stamps. Can anyone imagine what that kind of money would do for job training?
All the while, Reid and Pelosi support 20 million unlawful immigrants and unlawful workers in this country—at the expense of America’s Black citizens. Neither of those two ranking politicians represents the rule of law, but in fact, both continue to undermine Black America.
In a recent article, Roy Beck, “Moon Landing, Milton Berle, Soup Kitchens and Lost Dreams” 7/20/09, said, “Forty years ago this morning, I was visiting with Milton Berle in his hotel room near Grand Rapids, Michigan, sharing our reactions to watching the moon landing in the middle of the night. That evening, we met again over a giant bowl of potato salad at a backyard picnic as Congressman Gerald Ford dipped along with us and excitedly recounted his phone call from Nixon minutes after the moon walk.
“This is why kids aspire to be news reporters. You never know what you might be doing when something big happens. The moon landing inspired big dreams in lots of people. The year 1969 for my emerging generation was a time of big dreams about a world at peace, the end to racial conflict and disparities in America, and the beginning of a sustainable lifestyle. If we could put a man on the moon after only a decade of work, why couldn't we achieve these other goals?
“That was a summer when I donned riot gear to accompany police during a few nights of race riots. The northern ghettos of the Black underclass no longer were content with promises; they wanted full access to the middle-class economy.”
TODAY'S ABANDONED BLACK UNDERCLASS
“Waking up to NPR's report on the 40th anniversary this morning, I instantly felt myself back in that time, and thinking about what I thought the United States would be like by now,” Beck said. “It wasn't the U.S. that I know today. Once again this weekend, Shirley and I spent several hours at a soup kitchen, assisting 250 people in our community for whom the dreams of 1969 have not happened. As usual, most of the recipients of a meal, groceries and bus passes were Black Americans both recently and chronically out of the labor force. Nobody has been more devastated by federal policies of flooding the labor market with foreign workers than Black Americans. Their unemployment rates are through the roof.
“Visiting with them for hours Saturday, we couldn't conjure much hope at all that their lives had a chance of being transformed by a job. As I have said repeatedly for 20 years, there are many key ingredients to why the Black underclass has remained so large, but one of the most important has been congressional insistence at blocking their participation in the labor force by substituting foreign workers.”
IMMIGRATION GROWTH DEVOURING MILLIONS OF ACRES
“There are many reasons for this continuing rape of our nation's natural heritage, but the most important one is that federal immigration policies have mandated massive, unrelenting growth,” Beck said. “About 40 years ago, Nixon suggested at the time the country's population reached 200 million that we might do well not to add more.”
Beck added, “Anniversaries can be sad reminders of how badly we've screwed up. The Baby Boom generation with all of our high ideals has let environmental sustainability and racial egalitarianism slip from our grasp because as a whole we have never confronted the insistence of Big Business and Big Government for unrelenting immigration.”
Today, our Black President Obama, Pelosi and Reid propose, not only to grant amnesty to 20 million unlawful immigrants that will further decay Black American jobs, but the all voted to double legal immigration from 1.2 million to 2.4 million annually (June vote S. 1639, 2007).
Thus, Black America faces an uncertain future.
